What Paint Correction Does
Paint correction is the process of removing defects from the clear coat of your vehicle’s paint. Swirl marks, light scratches, scuff marks, oxidation, water spots, and general paint haze can often be removed or significantly reduced, depending on the condition of the paint. Unlike a basic polish or wax, paint correction focuses on permanently improving the surface of the paint rather than hiding defects. This process improves overall clarity and gloss, giving the paint a cleaner, more refined appearance.

When done incorrectly, paint correction can permanently damage the finish.
At HD Automotive Detailing, we bring nearly 10 years of hands-on paint correction experience to every vehicle. We’ve corrected paint on everything from high-end vehicles such as Porsche, Bentley, and Mercedes, to classic show cars and daily drivers that have seen years of wear. Our experience also extends beyond standard passenger vehicles, including semi-trucks, farm equipment, heavy machinery, motorcycles, and specialty vehicles.
Every vehicle is approached individually, with the goal of achieving the best possible result while maintaining the safety and integrity of the paint.
Paint Correction FAQs
How long does paint correction take?
Paint correction time varies based on vehicle size, paint condition, and the level of correction required. Most paint correction services take anywhere from one full day to multiple days. Timeframes are discussed during the inspection process.
Will paint correction remove all scratches?
Paint correction can remove or significantly reduce many surface-level defects. However, scratches that have penetrated through the clear coat cannot be safely removed and may require repainting. During inspection, we’ll explain what can and cannot be corrected.
Is paint correction safe for my vehicle?
Yes, when performed correctly. Paint correction removes a very small amount of clear coat in a controlled manner to improve the surface. We prioritize paint safety and will not attempt corrections that could compromise clear coat integrity.
How long do paint correction results last?
Paint correction permanently improves the paint surface. However, maintaining those results depends on proper washing, care, and protection. Many customers choose to add a ceramic coating or paint protection solution to help preserve the finish.
Do I need a ceramic coating after paint correction?
Ceramic coating is not required, but it is highly recommended. Paint correction restores the paint; a coating helps protect that corrected finish from future damage and makes ongoing maintenance easier.
Why is an inspection required before pricing?
Every vehicle’s paint condition is different. An inspection allows us to assess defect severity, paint thickness, and overall condition so we can recommend the correct level of correction and provide accurate pricing.
Can paint correction help with oxidation or dull paint?
Yes. Oxidation, haze, and dullness are common issues that paint correction is designed to address. Results depend on the severity of oxidation and the condition of the clear coat.
Is paint correction the same as waxing?
No, waxing can temporarily improve appearance but may hide defects. Paint correction focuses on refining the paint itself to permanently improve clarity and reduce defects.
Do you offer after-hours drop-off or pickup?
Yes. Secure after-hours drop-off and pickup are available using our key drop system. Details and access information are provided prior to your appointment.
